Our pigs
Everything started in the summer of 2008 when we found ourselves on a pig keeping course.
I liked pigs and was looking for something that would fit in with our two young daughters, we were lucky to have the room to do it.
Keeping livestock was nothing new to my husband, as prior to my arriving on the scene he bred pedigree Hereford cattle, but gave this up in 1999.
It was there on the course that we first came across the Oxford Sandy and Black Pig and we decided that we wanted to bring it back to its roots in Oxfordshire and help with the conservation of this delightful pig.
The basis for the Suntrap Herd is founded on Andy and Maureen Case's Longash Herd in Dorset.
We have two breeding boars from the Alistair and Jack lines. Our female lines are Duchess, Lady, Iris and Elsie.
One of our young Duchess gilts has been successfully shown at the Royal Berkshire East of England Shows by Amy Wright, she hopes to achieve more success in the coming year with her.
Our litters are birth notified and any piglets that meet the breed society standards are registered with the British Pig Association. We keep some of these ourselves as future breeding stock or they are sold to other breeders for showing or breeding.
We start creep-feeding at about six weeks and completely wean at eight weeks when all the litter is wormed. At the same time any registered weaners are inoculated against Parvovirus and Erysipelas.
We usually have weaners for sale so contact us if you are interested in either registered or pork stock.
